When you take a DNA test, your genetic material is analyzed to identify matches with other individuals who have also taken the test. The test compares the genetic markers from your DNA to those of other individuals in the testing company’s database. If the markers from your DNA are similar to those of someone else, the test identifies this as a potential match. The more markers you share with another person, the closer the genetic relationship is likely to be.

For the average person who takes the test, those matches can be in the range from a few hundred to around 20,000. However if you're a Puerto Rican or a descendant of one, those matches increase dramatically, some even as high as 200,000 matches. So, why is this the case? Why do Puerto Ricans have so many matches.
