Vidal Santiago Diaz- How One Barber Fought Against 40 Armed Guards

Born on January 1, 1910 in Aguas Buenas PR, Diaz was a barber who was a member of the Puerto Rican Nationalist Party and also the personal barber and trusted confidant of Albizu Campos.
In the early hours of October 31st 1950, Vidal Santiago Diaz sent a telegram to the Attorney General of Puerto Rico offering his services as an intermediary upon learning that the police wanted to arrest Albizu Campos, the leader of the Nationalist Party. After sending the telegram, he then opens his barbershop, Salon Boricua located in Santurce , PR waiting for a response that never came. Instead 15 police officers and 25 National guardsman armed with multiple weapons including grenades and a Browning M1919A4 machine gun approach his barbershop that very afternoon and lay seige to It.
