During our sojourn as part of the United States of America, Puerto Ricans have served, fought and died in every US military war or conflict from World War I onward.

In fact even when Puerto Rico was still under Spanish rule, Puerto Ricans actually fought alongside the American colonists and the Revolutionary War.
In general, almost 200,000 Puerto Ricans have served so far in America's wars. Approximately 1,300 have also died while serving and many thousands more wounded. This doens't include Puerto Ricans who live in the U.S mainland. Also countless medals have been awarded to Puerto Ricans during the wars. These medals include 9 Medals of Honor, 19 distinguished Service Crosses, 9 Navy crosses, hundreds of Silver Stars, Bronze stars, and thousands of purple hearts.

Not bad for a small island with barely 3.5 million people.
